---Help file for 3MX linux release candidate 4.0--- Use the up/down arrow keys to scroll help file. USB and SD cards auto mount when inserted. USB auto unmounts, but SD sometimes does not. I have added a desktop and menu entry for this. Please click the icon BEFORE removing your SD card or you may experience lockups or a frozen keyboard. A tethered connection with a cellphone connected via usb now works. Edit /etc/ppp/peers/blackjack and blackjack-chat to fit your providers settings. Its currently set up for AT&T. To connect just open a terminal and type: pppd call blackjack I have since added a menu/desktop entry for this. There is a minimalistic webserver built in. You can start and stop it from the menu. You can add files and your own index.html into the directory /etc/mini-httpd There are now also menu entries to start telnet, secure shell and bitlbee (irc2im gateway) servers. The system now boots into a user account with full root priveledges. It doesnt harm anything, but it does look better in console. Also keeps apps like Irssi from logging onto irc as root and being kick/banned. The system currently has no package management. However, if you know an .xap works you can still install it with the xap-install script. NOTE: Not every application is listed in the menu. There are a few console applications and tools laying around in the filesystem. (python, g++, gcc, cpp, perl) (ruby, tcl/tk, irssi, minicom, ncftp, nmixer, wget, vi) (rdesktop, scim, sablevm, sftp, lame, streamripper, etc) With the desktop up you can switch to 1 virtual console by hitting ctrl+alt+F3. Log in as user, no password. To switch back to desktop hit ctrl+alt+F2. I also removed most all docs and man pages to help save space. If you require them i suggest googling for online documentation and manpages. I left a few of them in /usr/share/docs. ------------------------------------------------------------ Known bugs: *In console mode the screen doesn't always refresh properly. Type 'clear' before running console applications to mostly solve this issue. *Screen sometimes flickers when playing certain audio formats. *muPDF diplays images and text poorly and *sometimes* locks up the system. ------------------------------------------------------------- Tips 'n hints: *ALT+click n drag can move a window around thats too big to see the OK/Apply/Cancel buttons. *To have your desired keyboard layout enabled by default in jwm edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the line starting with "XkbLayout" to either gb,pt,de,uk,fr,us or us-int and save. For keymaps not included you can add your own in /share/xmodmap. Then restart X or reboot. *To change the wallpaper edit this file: /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/pb_Default and add a line under like this: /usr/share/pixmaps/your-wallpaper.jpg Save and restart X or reboot. *If you need japenese or other languages, scim is installed, but you will need to install your own fonts and locales. *The weather applet on the desktop can be configured by editing /etc/wmweather.conf *If you don't like ayttm or centerim messengers open the menu and choose servers-->start bitlbee. I have it set to open xchat and auto join #bitlbee. It's really easy to use once you set up your accounts. If setup seems too complicated search google for "bitlbee quick start". *Please create a password for both root and user accounts. example: passwd user and passwd root It's the smart and safe thing to do. _______________________________________________________________ Thank you's: Debian mipsel repositories for alot of packages.
